The Trainer

Emily Jacobs is an equine educator.

Her passion is in integrating training and bodywork modalities to best suit each horse’s needs. She meets behavior and conditioning milestones by continuously assessing the physical and nervous system functioning of each horse. She takes environment, herd dynamics, nutrition, and pain management into account and teaches horses to soothe themselves, look to their handlers for answers, and perform better. She combines Equine Science with in-saddle, on-rope, and on-property experience to effectively communicate with horses, improve their wellbeing, and teach riders.

With more than fifteen years spent in professional equine training, management, and education industries, Emily brings about measurable improvements in horse performance and welfare.

Emily specializes in developing handy trail and pack horses. Her style is predominantly Western/ Vaquero, but she doesn’t limit her instruction to one discipline. At her clinics and in consultation, all backgrounds can benefit and are welcome. Her ambition is to create an atmosphere of openness where students and horses can use a mixture of exploration and direction to gain confidence in their abilities.

Emily began interacting with horses when she was a baby and was an enthusiastic trail-rider by six. Her training career began when she became enchanted with the horsemanship clinic; she attends clinics around the West taught by trainers and packers such as Buck Brannaman, Julie Goodnight, Joe Wolter, and Chris Eyer. Emily has also been under the wings of accomplished trainers and behavior experts like Sarah Matlock and Kristi Plutt. She is a lifelong learner. If a method is safe, effective, and clear but compassionate, it gets added to her hosemanship tool box.
